'Make in India' roadshow gives unique opportunities to Hong Kong

Hong Kong has a unique advantage to position itself as 'Gateway to India' for Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong companies, under the 'Make in India' initiative launched by India. Companies here can use their core strengths and expertise, gained from being 'Gateway to China', to capitalize upon exciting new opportunities in India.

2. Mr. Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Government of India, conveyed this during the 'Make in India' roadshow organized in Hong Kong on 1st April 2015 by the Consulate General of India, with DIPP, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

Attended by over 130 business leaders and investors from Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI), Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), Indian Chamber of Commerce,The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), Hong Kong Foreign Financial Institutions Association (HKFFIA), the road-show saw detailed presentations by Secretary Kant on measures taken by Prime Minister Modi's Government to promote ease of doing business and expand manufacturing under 'Make-in-India'. Details were also provided of policies and specific opportunities in 25 sectors such as ports, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, infrastructure etc.

4. Consul General Prashant Agrawal conveyed that several major Hong Kong companies were in the process of expanding their operations/investments in India and Make-in-India initiative was providing them due facilitation. Secretary Kant, accompanied by a high level business delegation of CII and FICCI members and Consul General, also called on Mr. Philip Wai-hung Yung, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.
