DEADLINE FOR CONVERSION FROM PIO CARDS TO OCI CARDS IS 30th June,
2017.

 

The PIO Card scheme has been withdrawn with effect from 09.01.2015. Henceforth, applicants may apply only for OCI card.

The last date for submission of online applications for registration as OCI cardholder in lieu of PIO card by the existing PIO cardholders (holding valid PIO cards as on 09 January 2015) has been extended till 30 June 2017.

 

PIO cardholders are advised to apply for OCI Card before 30 June 2017at http://passport.gov.in/oci/ Please note that Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR applicants may submit the applications at the Consulate General of India, Hong Kong, 16-D, United Centre, 95, Queensway, Admiralty, Hong Kong with the following documents by taking an appointment on our new email ID ocipio.hongkong@mea.gov.in

 

Online application with two 2x2(50x50mm) size photographs
Current passport and a copy of passport with HKID/MACAU ID
PIO Card and copy of PIO Card
Address proof

 

Issue of OCI card in lieu of PIO Card will be on gratis basis; however, the applicants may have to bear the postage charges and service fee if any, wherever applicable.

 

Applicants may now also submit their applications for OCI card in lieu of PIO card to the Embassy/Consulate/FFRO concerned within the Consular jurisdiction of their place of residence. This is in modification of the earlier instruction that they should apply only at the location where the PIO card was issued.

 

For conversion of PIO card to OCI Card in respect of spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an OCI cardholder registered under section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, the person concerned should submit the applications online in the format prescribed to the Indian Mission/Post/FRRO concerned.

 

The Consulate General of India issues Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cards to eligible applicants. Details regarding the OCI card scheme, including information on fresh applications and miscellaneous services online, can be obtained from websitehttp://passport.gov.in/oci/. For online registration, applicants can also directly reach the website by entering Download forms - OCI at the Google site

 

After completion of online registration (Part A and Part B) and uploading of documents online for fresh card or miscellaneous service, the reference number of the online registration as well as name of the applicant may be sent to the Consulate by email atocipio.hongkong@mea.gov.inwith a request for an appointment for interview. A person who has not attained the age of 18 years is considered as a minor. In case of a minor who cannot sign, his/her clear left thumb impression may be place in the signature box. Parents should not sign on behalf of their children. Signature/Thumb impression should be in the prescribed box.

 

The originals and copy each of supporting documents must be brought to the Consulate at the time of interview (ocipio.hongkong @mea.gov.in). The required documents are:

 

Print out of completed online registration form
Two photos (2 x 2 inches) with light colour background, one pasted on the form
Current Passport
HKID
Old Indian Passport (of parent/grandparent if applicant was never issued one)
Renunciation / Surrender Certificate of Indian Passport (of parent/grandparent if applicant was never issued one)
Naturalization / Registration Certificate of foreign nationality
Address Proof (recent utility bill)
Birth Certificate in cases where applying on the basis of parent's eligibility

 

Declaration of never having applied for or issued an Indian Passport or similar declaration by parents on behalf of their children - where required

 

OCI eligibility is based on Indian lineage. If applicants have never possessed an Indian Passport and are applying on the basis of their parents'/grandparents' eligibility, proof of their Indian nationality is required to be submitted as also proof of their relationship with the applicant.

 

Spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an OCI Cardholder registered under section 7A and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years can submit the application for OCI.

 

Applicants will be interviewed as part of processing of the OCI card application. After interview and subject to approval, applicants would be asked to deposit the OCI Card fee in cash. After payment of the fee, applicants can check status of OCI Card online at http://passport.gov.in/oci/. Once the card is ready, in case they are unable to collect the card in person, they would be required to send their Passports along with OCI Card fee receipt for collection of OCI Card. The collection time of OCI Card is between 0930 to 1200 hrs from Monday to Friday.

OCI CARD HOLDERS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY BOTH THE OCI CARD AND PASSPORT FOR ENTRY INTO INDIA

 

The requirement of 'U' visa sticker on the foreign passport of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder has now been dispensed with.

 

Henceforth, passengers who are not carrying the passport containing the 'U' Visa sticker may be allowed to enter/exit India by immigration authorities on production of the OCI Card along with the current passport.
