OCI & PIO Cards

The Consulate General issues Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cards to eligible applicants. Details regarding the OCI card scheme, including information on fresh applications and miscellaneous services online, can be obtained from websitehttp://passport.gov.in/oci/. For online registration, applicants can also directly reach the website by entering Download forms–OCI at the Google site. 

After completion of online registration for fresh card or miscellaneous service, the reference number of the online registration may be sent to the Consulate by email at ocipio@cgihk.gov.in with a request for an appointment for interview.

The originals and copy each of supporting documents may be brought to the Consulate at the time of interview. The required documents are:

Print out of completed online registration form
Two photos (2 x 2 inches) with light colour background, one pasted on the form
Current Passport
HKID
Old Indian Passport (of parent/grandparent if applicant was never issued one)
Renunciation / Surrender Certificate of Indian Passport (of parent/grandparent if applicant was never issued one)
Naturalisation / Registration Certificate of foreign nationality
Address Proof (recent utility bill)
Birth Certificate in cases where applying on the basis of parent’s eligibility
Declaration of never having applied for or issued an Indian Passport or similar declaration by parents on behalf of their children  – where required


OCI eligibility is based on Indian lineage. If applicants have never possessed an Indian Passport and are applying on the basis of their parents’/grandparents’ eligibility, proof of their Indian nationality is required to be submitted as also proof of their relationship with the applicant.

Applicants will be interviewed as part of processing of the OCI card application. After interview and subject to approval, applicants would be asked to deposit the OCI Card fee in cash. After payment of the fee, it may take upto one month for the OCI cards and Lifelong visa stickers to be ready as they are printed in New Delhi and sent to this Consulate. The applicants will be informed when their cards/visa stickers are ready. They would be required to send their Passports along with OCI Card fee receipt for collection of OCI Card and Lifelong Visa Sticker, which will be pasted on their Passport 

OCI CARD HOLDERS ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY BOTH THE OCI CARD AND PASSPORT WITH LIFELONG VISA STICKER FOR ENTRY INTO INDIA

PIO Cards

Eligibility criteria for PIO card is same as that of OCI card except that spouses who are not of Indian origin are also eligible. A comparison chart between OCI and PIO card holders may be seen at MHA website : http://mha1.nic.in/pdfs/oci-chart.pdf.  A PIO card holder can enter India without a visa during the validity of the card if carrying the card along with valid passport.  In case there is a change in passport or nationality, the PIO card is required to be endorsed accordingly by the Consulate.

Applicants have to fill in the application form (available at the Consulate / click here to download the form) and submit the same at the Consulate along with two passport size photographs of 35 x 45 mm size (Photo samples) with light colour background (one of them pasted at the relevant space in the application form) and supporting documents. For submission of the application along with documents, prior appointment is required which can be obtained by sending e-mail at ocipio@cgihk.gov.in. The originals and a copy each of supporting documents may be produced for verification at the time of interview. The documents required are:

Completed PIO Application Form
Current Passport
HKID
Indian Passport (of parent or grandparent, in case applicant was not issued one)
Renunciation / Surrender Certificate of Indian Passport (of parent or grandparent, in case applicant was not issued one)
Naturalisation / Registration Certificate of foreign nationality
Birth certificate of the applicant (in case eligibility is sought from parents or grandparents)
Address Proof (recent utility bill)
Declaration by the parents of never having applied for an Indian Passport for their child, if so

For applicants applying on the basis of marriage to an Indian Passport holder, they may also submit:

  1. Indian Passport of spouse
  2. Marriage Certificate
  3. Declaration form to be filled in by both husband and wife in the Consulate


After interview and subject to approval, applicants would be requested to deposit the fee in cash. Date and time of delivery of the PIO Card will be mentioned in the payment receipt. The process may take about 15 working days. 

Fee: HK$ 2,440.00 / (HK$ 1,230.00 for minors, below 18 yrs)
